In the Mercantile Navy List 1864, the list of Passed Masters and Mates shows a Charles CHILVERS with Certficate 11769.

He was born on 11 March 1825 at Carlton, Suffolk and lived at Oulton, Lowestoft, Suffolk when granted his Second Mate Certificate. Passed the Ordinary Examination on 13 January 1855 at London having paid £1 to apply.

The Certificate is endorsed with ".....punishment for fraudulent use is a misdemeanor and punishable with fine of £50. or 3months Hard Labour" Charles served as a seaman in "Bernicia" 13 May 1850 to 24 October 1851 previous ship "Ellenborough"
